The Family Stand
The Family Stand is really a hot sounding group of the New Funk Era. I am not a big fan of Funk maybe because I didn’t hear it a lot growing up. When I heard this group I immediately fell in love with them. They have a refreshing sound, once you heard them I am sure you will feel the same. So, because of my lack of knowledge in the Funk department I decided to have a few friends to listen to them and they were like wow they do sound good, kinda of reminded them of Sly and the Family Stone with a little of Jimmy Hendrix mixed all in one. They gave them a thumbs up, so now I had to go back and find out how these folks sounds and they sound good but I still prefer the sound of The Family Stand. Here are a few of my favorite songs that they have out: I Thought We Had and The Undiscovered Country

Ewing

Ewing has a very unique sing voice that I have fallen in love with. He has been compared to a modern day Marvin Gaye—very soulful and cool. Ewing produces a Universal sound that is filled with passion, dynamic drive and true soul in a way that has been lost for many years.

A wizard on the keys as well as the pen, he writes those top lines that stay with you past the first listening. A man that has a life story to share and yet manages to convey positive messages even in the most painful of memories. All of this is delivered in an electrifying performance with his unique Soul/funk blend that is simply organic without contrivance.

Below are sample of his songs Free and Must be Something.

U.City

U.City has become known for creating a fusion of soul, rock, funk and hip hop all in one original sound. A sound that engages various demographics somewhat futile. Reservations was their depute album released in 2005 serves as a reminder of soul music as it once was.
Josh from U.City quoted that: Our sound is our own, it is exactly sincere; people don’t have to feel like they are listening to soul artists trying to do rock, hip-hop, and pop. U.City continues to work on new projects in order to offer something that both devoted fans and first-time listeners can truly appreciate.

U.City strives to create that which will stand apart and ultimately bring authenticity and depth to an industry that is starving to be fed substance.

Here are two songs from the group U.City: Tight and All For U.

Eric Roberson

Some of you might have heard of Eric Roberson since he has been on the scene for awhile. Well, he is one of our MySpace friends, so I decided to feature him as the artist of the week. Eric’s vocals are just amazing, his voice is so clear and crisp, and on top of all of that he is so handsome. Anyway I know you guys will love him as much as I do, I have listed to two of his singles Pretty Girl , Too Soon and a video, for those who want to know more about Eric Roberson his bio is listed below.

BIO:

As the anticipatory buzz builds to just this side of impatience, the headliner takes the stage. From the moment he does, he has the audience eating out of his hand. Women shout his name and toss out song requests. Males and females sing along word for word as the tight six-piece backing combo feeds off the audience’s vibe. Judging by this scenario, you might think a superstar was getting busy onstage. But the performer is singer/songwriter Eric Roberson. For fans of the independent soul scene, Roberson — who has four releases out through his Blue Erro Soul label — is every bit a high-profile crowd pleaser as a Prince, Usher or Mary J. Blige.

Through his publishing deal with EMI Music, Roberson has had his songs covered by Dwele, Musiq, Vivian Green and Will Downing. Like many of his indie peers, he also operates his own recording studio.
Reached through a mailing list that numbers in the thousands, Roberson’s ERF (Eric Roberson Family) Web devotees are known to travel substantial distances to see him in concert. At his Little Temple Bar show, a female fan came in from Chicago. Another drove from South Carolina to attend a D.C. show.
“I pretty much stay on the road doing between eight and 11 shows a month,” says Roberson. “You do the best show you can, and then you stay out there, sign CDs, hug everyone you can and thank them.”

Deborah Bond

I love Deborah’s style of singing, She has a wonderful voice. It’s a sound that can be really appreciated. Growing up in New Haven, Connecticut she was influenced by Michael and Janet Jackson, Loose End and Eurythmics. Deborah credits the unique vocals of Sade, Anita Baker and Chaka Khan in shaping her own signature style. It is no surprise that her songs are experiences that people from all walks of life can relate to, but also an opportunity to venture into realms of fantasy.

Deborah and her band 3rd Logic brings a sound that transcends all musical genres, this allows the group to be musically adventurous and to play without boundaries which creates a vibe that is both sophisticated and edgy.

Since 2007 was a busy year for Deborah and 3rd Logic as they have continue to push their music creativity, as well as take their audience to the next level and beyond. Here are two tracks that I like Love’s been Waiting and See you in my dreams.

Chris Chandler

Chris Chandler is really a good singer with a Neo Soul sound mixed with a little Hip Hop. I found myself liking his music the more I listened. Here is more on Chris…..His explores the full spectrum R&B with ballads such as “Just U” “Be Easy”, and “The Thought of Us”, a powerful debut with soulstress Juanita Wynn. Just when you think the album is all about the ballads, Chris switches it up an sophisticated, lyrical hip-hop tracks fill your ear. The hip-hop inspired title track “Lifestylez” featuring Head Crack is a ghetto anthem about temptations of life in the ghetto.

Powered by a strong musical family background, Chris is able to be a multi-faceted artist that composes, sings and produces on the debut album. He honed his writing and production skills by working with the world famous Beatnuts on 3 albums and lending his vocals and writing for Rawkus Records. He gained performance experience from touring and performing with Beatnuts, Soullive and Greg Nice.

His approach to producing and song writing is both disciplined and widely creative. For Chris it’s all about the right vibe and he seems to have found it with Lifestylz Vol. 1. His debut bridges the gap of today’s hip-hop generation and yesterday’s music legends.

Here are two of his singles Already Down and Be Easy.

Brise

Brise has a lot of talent and potential to be a great singer.  She has a beautiful voice, it’s like one of those voices that make you want to kick back and relax.  Brise voice can soothe the savage beast and most of us need it.

Brise, was born on December 12th, 1981, Brise has travelled extensively, living mainly in Africa before settling down in Belgium.  When Brise was 16, she took singing lessons, 2 years later, she sang with her pianist uncle and specialized in interpreting classical jazz songs.  In September 2006, she released a single with 4 songs “Years can go by”.  Here are two are her songs Dad I miss you and Living your dream.

Anthony David

It’s always good to feature someone from home (Atlanta, Ga) an when I ran across Anthony David I realize, I like this guy, an the fact that he sounds good just made it so much better. David has a very nice rough voice it sounds so good, I love it. I have listen to his music for the last 2 days.

David moved from Savannah, Ga to Atlanta to further his music career, Shortly after making that move he meet a then aspiring singer India.Arie. She is featured on his single Words. This joint sound good. He released his second album in September 2006 called “Red Clay Chronicles” under Brash recording label. Here is another of my favorite Something about you.

I know we will be hearing a lot more from Anthony David, I will !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amel Larrieux

This native New Yorker started her music career in 1995 as a duo known as Grove Theory with Bryce Wilson.  Their 1995 release Grove Theory spawned several radio hits such as “Tell Me”, “Keep Trying”, and “Baby Luv”. Larrieux, pursuing a solo career, would not be involved in the duo’s eventually-shelved second release The Answer.

Larrieux co-wrote and co-produced her first solo album Infinite Possibilities along with husband Laru Larrieux under Epic Records; the album produced the minor hit “Get Up”. Her second album Bravebird, released under the Blisslife Records label in 2004, the radio single “For Real”. Her third effort Morning was released in April 2006 and features the single “Weary”.  In May Larrieux released a Jazz album titled Lovely Standards, The album sold 3,700 copies in the first week.

Below I listed two of her singles that I think you guys will enjoy For Real and Make Me Whole.

Soul:ID

Soul:ID is one of Veston’s favorite group and I was kinda scared to feature them because we have a very different taste in  music. I mean we don’t always see eye to eye, hear the same tune or have the same vibe when it comes to music. So on that note I decided to give them a try and trust me it didn’t take me long to realize why he is such a big fan of this group, They are very talented and they sound damn good.

So here’s a little background on the group Soul:ID a 3rd of the band originate in Africia and fate brough them together in Brussels, Belgium where they worked as musicians and back-up vocalists. The group consists of Producer/Naughty boy Drummer Urban Deep, Tchaï the songstress, V singer/producer and Producer Dad’D.

Originally it was Tchaï and Urban Deep who got the ball rolling. Feeling strongly that the time had come to stop working on other people’s projects; they hit the studio and started working on their own. Calling on friends Dad’D and V for creative input, the foursome quickly realized that what they were creating was equivalent to musical gold. Three years of sessions, resulted in a natural merging of fate and friendship and the harmonious landscape painted by the four is a kaleidoscope of their different experiences, personalities and stories told in a tasty stew of urban sounds. Soul:ID take their music seriously and this you can tell with the release of their debut album, Sex, Love & Philosophy on ABB Records. Hey sit back and take the soul ride you will love it.

Here are a few of their singles and you can tell from the video below why Veston like this so much group. Love of my life, My philosophy and whatcha lookin for.
