Jay Z The Dynasty: Roc La Familia
Roc-A-Fella
The King of New York, Jay Z , returns to the scene with yet another installment into his glamorous career. After only selling 3 million copies of "Life and Times of S. Carter", Mr. Jigga felt it necessary to hit us again. The first commercial single, " I Just Wanna Love U" finds Jay Z ridin' a Neptune's track with a Curtis Mayfield influenced hook. This CD is not only Jay Z at his best, but Roc-A-Fella teammates, Bennie Sigel and Memphis Bleek give performances that are better than some cats' entire CD. For their great supporting roles they are given solo cuts, such as Bleek on "Holla" and Sigel on "The Roc". With a crew so tight, the guest appearances are limited to R. Kelly on "Guilty Until Proven Innocent", Scarface on "This Can't Be Life" and Snoop Dogg on "Get Your Mind Right". Jay Z enlists virtually unknown producers to supply beats, but this doesn't stop him from achieving greatness. My favorite cuts are "Change the Game", "Street is Talking", "You, Me, Him and Her", and "Squeeze First". My only question concerning Jay Z's dynasty is "Where's
Amil????"
OutKast Stankonia
La Face
The two man team of Big Boi and Andre 3000 , who professionally are known as OutKast returns with their fourth masterpiece "Stankonia". When it comes to cutting edge hip-hop, OutKast live up to their name. "B.O.B." is a return to their bass booty shake roots as OutKast exchange verses of a beat that's about 120 bpm. On "Ms. Jackson", the crew stand for all the men with 'Baby Momma Drama.' "So Fresh, So Clean" has to be one of the flyest cuts dedicated to the plays I've ever heard. OutKast break free from the normal typecast of hip-hop with joints like "Humble Mumble", "?", "Toilet Tisha", and "Stankonia". Organized Noize and Earthtone III held down all the production on the journey through the minds of Dre and Big Boi. Lyrically, Andre 3000 is the hip-hop version of Jimi Hendrix, kicking vocals that's as though provoking as an Einstein Theory. Big Boi drops lyrics that would make a street hustler look like a politician. OutKast are destined to go down in hip-hop history for dropping the 'Stank-On-U.'
