Lil Wayne Lights Out
Cash Money
The baby of the Cash Money Records' family, Lil Wayne is back with his sophomore release. To me, Lil Wayne is one of the most promising MCs coming out of the south. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't seem to be able to put out quality full lengths. Lights Out pick up where Tha Block is Hot (Wayne's first disc) left off. It's very un-inspiring. The tracks are done by Mannie Fresh (as well as all other Cash Money projects) who again fails to give Wayne the hot beats to take his lyrics to the next level. Instead, he reuses a lot of the sounds and beats of his previous work. The first single, "Get Off the Corner" is by far the tightest cut. "Everything" is a touching tribute to his deceased father. All in all, Wayne doesn't go to any unchartered waters and leaves us waiting for him to blossom.

QB Finest Queensbridge: the Album
Sony
Platinum rapper, NAS, has put together one of this year's best projects. QBF is a compilation showcasing some of the hottest emcees all hailing from Queens, New York. "Da Bridge 2001" is a posse cut featuring NAS, Capone, Mobb Deep, Tragedy, Nature, Cormega, Marley Marl, and MC Shan. This disc is super tight. L.E.S. laid down nine of the tracks and he complimented each MC perfectly. Queen of Queens, Shante, even reps on "We Live This". This show of unity will hopefully end any beef amongst the artist on this project. Sorry, Krs-one, "The bridge isn't over."
